You know, I just rewatched 2x22 and now I know why it works, despite the WTF-ishness: Because Kyle is an amazing, amazing actor. In fact, after this episode I'd go so far as to say that he's the best actor on the show. The way he mixed this "Bastards have to die" expression with "I can't believe I'm doing this WTF is wrong with me??" in the flashbacks, and then his sudden resolution when he sees the text message, and how on the roof he loses it and you can pinpoint the exact moment when what he did crashes down on him (i.e. when Veronica says the "He killed my dad", in my opinion) and the complete desperation-resignation when he climbs on the ledge. And his voice at the "My name is Cassidy!" *heartbreak*
