for my reference.. films i have seen this year

Die fetten Jahre sind vorbei (January 05) excellent german movie with daniel brühl and upcoming shooting star julia jentsch. thrilling, thoughtful and funny. 2 friends break into the houses of rich people. instead of stealing things they leave political messages.
then one falls in love with the others girl and a break-in goes wrong.. and daniel brühl is sooooooooo in love..the way he closes his eyes before kissing the girl *sigh*

The Incredibles (January 05) boooring... i like some animated movies.. not this one :(

Closer (January 05)
Dan: Didn't fancy my sandwiches?
Alice: Don't eat fish.
Dan: Why not?
Alice: Fish piss in the sea.
Dan: So do children.
Alice: Don't eat children either.
jude law, julia roberts, nathalie portman and clive owen.. glad i saw this in the ov and not german dubbed. some say it is over-the-top and portays the characters to cruel and asshole-like. but i found it very true and honest. thats what love it like.
cruel!

Lemony Snicket's A Series of Fortunate Events
beeef, yes. Roast beef. It's the Swedish term for "beef that has been roasted"
jim carrey is crazy and wonderful as usual, but cannot safe the movie for me. great production, but lame story.."

A very long engagement ( Mathilde )
Rouvières: A trench named Bingo Crepuscule? Why not Yippie Tralala?
Amelié Mathilde doesnt believe that her fiancee died in WW1. Would've been a wonderful, magic movie, but the war comes in between. far too violent and too many cruel war scenes for me.

National Treasure
one of my LEAST favourite actors: Nicholas Cage. What's with the guy?! bleurgh..
not sure if the whole film only lacked a better actor, or if the whole story was just crap.
also crap: Diane Kruger..

oh.. and it had sean bean in it *g*

Kammerflimmern
my fav german actor Matthias Schweighöfer!
More in this entry

Finding Neverland
i had such high hopes on that one.. johnny depp and kate winslet and applause from all critics.
but i was disappointed. the story never touched me and i was slightly bored..:(

meet the fockers
Bernie Focker: If its yellow let it mellow, if its brown flush it down... Opps, looks like I forgot my own rule
hilarious!! funny=sexy.. thats why i LOVE ben stiller. this time he is out-ruled by dustin hoffman though. great ensemble and dorky humour!

Hitch
Hitch: [in reference to the seafood appetizer] Coquille St-Jacques, my ass! Death on a leaf! "
lmao..
will smith as a romantic "date doctor" falling in love with eva mendes.. sweet and funny and entertaining. new york *sigh*
the whole story on moviespoiler.com

The Wedding Date
Kat Ellis: I've been spilling my guts all weekend and I don't know anything about you.
Nick Mercer: I'm allergic to fabric softener, and I majored in comparative literature at Brown. I hate anchovies and I think I'd miss you even if we'd never met.
awwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwww
yeah, i know, i fall for romantic comedies and the romantic hero. dermot mulrony as a sexy call-boy, who escorts Grace Kat ( Debra Messing) to her sister's wedding.
we all know what's gonna happen and it's still all sweet and romantic and all!!

Sideways
Jack: If they want to drink Merlot, we're drinking Merlot.
Miles Raymond: No, if anyone orders Merlot, I'm leaving. I am NOT drinking any fucking Merlot!
ourstanding performances by Thomas Hayden Church ( so hate-able!!) and Paul Giamatti ( probably the most unnoticed guy in so many movies)
bachelor trip-nightmare, never daft but always funny! and you feel so sorry for miles, you just wanna hug him and kicl jack's ass!

The Pacifier
not a big vin diesel fan, but he kinda got me in that movie.
you all know the story ( and end!)before it's even started, but it's still entertaining and you leave the cinema having had a laugh.

the sea inside

Barfuß
Til Schweiger(also director and producer) gives a remarkably good performance and obviously his ability in directing has improved since his last major effort "Der Eisbär". Johanna Wokalek is THE reason to see the film, though, and fortunately Schweiger knows this pulls himself back and gives her the ability to shine. Her performance of Leyla is sweet and touching and she manages to provide the movie with a light touch as well as a necessary seriousness.
It's the first time i actually see the romantic and desperate side on Schweiger.. very fine performance!
fantastic german movie
and once again "Hallelujah" does the scene, this time sung by Rae outof Raemonn!

The Interpreter
wonderful acting by nicole kidman and sean penn, wonderful directing by sidney pollack .great movie.
thrilling and entertaing, from the first minute to the last!

Silvia Broome: Vengeance is a lazy form of grief.

Dear Frankie
my first real gerard butler encounter :)..
he plays the stranger, that frankie's mum hires to play his dad, cos all those years she has been replying letters to a dad she made up for him..
the look in "the strangers" eyes when he hears how frankie became deaf is absolutley breathtaking and you can feel the connection between him and frankies mum.. though its no real lovestory developing..
wonderful scottish movie..

Kingdom of Heaven
whoa.. the first impression is whoa..
wonderful leading role for orlando, the setting, colours, music and actor are great and the story is amazing!
edward norton as the king behind the mask is brilliant.

Godfrey of Ibelin: I once fought two days with an arrow through my testicle.

Balian of Ibelin: What is Jerusalem worth?
Saladin: Nothing.
[walks away]
Saladin: Everything!

Monster-in-law( June 2005 )
funny jane fonda comeback movie.
many people hate J.Lo these days.. i dont really have an opinion to that, but i liked her quirky character in this movie..
michael vartan is a bit over-shadowed by the 2 "divas", but looks gorgeous as always..
j.lo and vartan fall in love and wanna get married, but jane fonda (vartans mummy) hates the thought of losing her son to j.lo and starts a funny war :)

Ruby: [fighting Viola for the nut-tainted gravy] I think you dislocated my vagina

A Lot Lile Love ( June 2005 )

I saw the trailer for this movie in NY and I had to see it! Took them a long time to bring it to Germany :)
Liked Ashton Kutcher a lot and he and Amanda Peets character sooo hit it off. Wonderfully entertaining romantic comedy about two people that NEED to be together but fail everytime they meet through the years..

Emily Friehl: Honestly, if you're not willing to sound stupid you don't deserve to be in love.

Batman Begins ( July 2005 )

Christian Bale.. enough said?
ah well.. brilliant dark movie. the best batman. wonderful range of actors, great story and a brilliant directos ( christopher nolan )
you see why and how bruce wayne became batman in the first place..
a broke man trying to lose his fears and save his city!
WOW

Alfred Pennyworth: When you told me your grand plan for saving Gotham, you said it wasn't about thrill-seeking.
Bruce Wayne: It isn't.
Alfred Pennyworth: What do you call that?
[points to a TV news report of a high-speed chase involving the Batmobile]
Bruce Wayne: Damn good television.

War of the Worlds ( July 2005 )
I usually like Tom Cruise, but he annoyed the hell out of me the past few month..
So, basically the movie was as annoying as Mr Tomkat himself.
Bad story and the worst ending ever.. how could the son have survived, huh??

News Producer: [looking at crashed airplane] Were you on that plane?
Ray Ferrier: No.
News Producer: That's too bad. Would have made a great story.

Ray Ferrier: Ketchup. Mustard. Thousand Island Dressing. Vinaigrette. This is good, Robbie. I told you to pack *food*. What the hell is this?
Robbie Ferrier: That's all that was in your kitchen.

Robbie Ferrier: What is it? Is it terrorists?
Ray Ferrier: These came from some place else.
Robbie Ferrier: What do you mean, like, Europe?
Ray Ferrier: No, Robbie, not like Europe!

Rachel Ferrier: I'm allergic to peanut butter.
Ray Ferrier: Since when?
Rachel Ferrier: Birth.

Madagascar ( July 2005 )
omg teh cuteness..
watched the OV, as I wanted to hear Ben Stiller, Chris Rock and Sacha Baron Cohen instead of Jan Josef Liefers and such..
it was so much fun..best animated movie in a long time and the lemurs killed me!! "i like to move it move it" lmao

Marty the Zebra: The penguins are going, so why can't I?
Alex the Lion: Marty, the penguins are psychotic.

Julian: [singing] I like to move it, move it / You like to move it, move it / She like to move it, move it / He like to...
Random Lemur: Move it!

Julian: Does anybody else have the heebee-jeebees?

A Lovesong for Bobby Long ( August 2005 )
A "sleeper", I'd say. Not too much into John Travolta, who is even worse in this one..
Scarlett Johannson doesn't play the pretty one, this time.. and Gabriel Macht OMG.. what a nice suprise.
"Upon hearing of her mother's death, jaded teenage loner Purslane Hominy Will returns to New Orleans for the first time in years, ready to reclaim her childhood home. Expecting to find her late mother's house abandoned, Pursy is shocked to discover that it is inhabited by two of her mother's friends: Bobby Long, a former literature professor, and his young protégé, Lawson Pines"

Lawson Pines: [Carrying in a tree] Ho ho ho!
Bobby Long: Where did you get that?
Lawson Pines: Fell off the back of a truck.
Bobby Long: Like hell it did.
Lawson Pines: All right, maybe it was a volvo

Allein ( August 2005 )
Movie about a girl suffering from the borderline syndrome.. Lots of problems with men, alcohol and drugs.. until fellow student Jan comes along. Intense drama with Maximilian Brückner, whom I LOVED as gay footballer in "Männer wie wir"

The Island ( August 2005 )
Ewan McGregor and Scarlett Johannson.. Entertaining pair, entertaining movie.. but nothing remains. No real moments to remember. Simple..A little too fake
McCord: The life you thought you had... it never happened.

Lincoln Six-Echo: Who is "God"?
McCord: You know when you really want something, you close your eyes and wish for it really hard? God is the guy that ignores you.

Jordan Two-Delta: [watching motorcycle scream down the asphalt] What was that?
Lincoln Six-Echo: I don't know.
[smiles]
Lincoln Six-Echo: But I want one.

Lincoln Six-Echo: Why do we sound different?
Tom Lincoln: Oh, I'm from Scotland.
Lincoln Six-Echo: [imitating] I'm from Scotland.

Mr & Mrs Smith ( August 2005 )
The whole Brad/Angelina hype started with this I guess.. and I must admit they have a chemistry..
expected more of the movie itself though.
"A bored married couple is surprised to learn that they are both assassins hired by competing agencies to kill each other"
Some funny little things, good action sequences.. but nothing more :(
ooh.. And Adam Brody plays Seth himself.. just with a different name!
Marriage Counselor: One a scale of one to ten, how would you rate the happiness of your marriage?
Jane Smith: 8.
John Smith: Wait. Could you clarify? Is 10 the highest? 10 being perfectly happy and 1 being totally miserable or...
Marriage Counselor: Just respond instinctively.
John Smith: Ok. Ready?
Jane Smith, John Smith: 8.

Marriage Counselor: How often do you have sex?
Jane Smith: I don't understand the question.

Brothers Grimm ( October 2005 )
ARGH.. Bad bad movie about the famous story tellers.. Not funny, not entertaining or thrilling and by far Heath Ledgers and Matt Damons worst roles..

Cavaldi: How can you speak this language? Every word sounds like an execution.
ARGH.. Bad, just bad.. not funny, not entertaining.. and Heath Ledger and Matt Damon in their worst roles ever..

Angelika: Not even the animals drink from that stream.
Letorc, Dax: [spitting out the water] Merde!
Letorc, Dax: [realizing that they are pretending to be German] I mean, Scheiße!

Cavaldi: How can you speak this language? Every word sounds like an execution.

Pride and Prejudice ( October 2005 )
The famous Jane Austen novel made into a hollywood movie. Keira Knightley is adorable as Elizabeth Bennet and Matthew McFadyens Mr Darcy gives you the shivers..
Even the smallest supporting role is done by a wonderful actor and the setting is also wonderful! YES!

Elizabeth Bennet: Do you dance, Mr. Darcy?
Mr. Darcy: Not if I can help it.

Elizabeth Bennet: From the first moment I met you, your arrogance made me realize that you were the last man in the world I could ever marry.

[Mr Darcy finally opens his heart to Elizabeth]
Mr. Darcy: You must know - surely you must know that it was all for you... I would have to tell you, you have bewitched me body and soul and I love and love and love you. And never wish to be parted from you from this day forward.

Elizabethtown( November 2005 )
Orlando's first real contemporary role!

The Incredibles: I love the Incredibles!!! I found it really funny and the bits with Violet and Dash really remind me of me and my brother :D How come you don't like it? I bought it.

Meet The Fockers: I agree with you on this one, Dustin Hoffman stole the show. Some bits made me cringe but in a "omg that would be sooo embarrassing" kinda way. Ima buy it.

Hitch: This was way funnier than I expected. And so sweet. It literally made everyone in the cinema laugh out loud - I can't remember the last film that did that. Ima buy it too.

The Pacifier: I really want to see this for some reason.. I wonder why... *thinks*...
