ok,i didnt wanna say anything about it..
cos i feel like [livejournal.com profile] swoonstars grandfather "never discuss religion and politics unless you want to lose a friend."

we all have different view and different CULTURAL and personal backrounds!!! what might offend one person, must not necessarily bother another..
(i'm writing and deleting constantly here, cos i don't wanna step on anyones toes..)

the general message is not, that dom didnt mean this and bla bla bla... cos i dont know what he said and always remember that BRAVO is a teenager magazine and kinda equivalent to US weekly or STAR..
it is just that i dont think anyone on my flist or in several communities means to offend and hurt another when saying, that they agree with dom..
if you feel hurt by a person you should directly say it to them..

excellent quote from starDOM:
...but I certainly felt that his remarks were directed towards concepts, not people.

and of course im keeping the comments open for everyone

also.. to cut out any questions about what words were used, i quote the german saying. feel free to translate yourself

gonna edit this when i have a clearer mind i guess

*hugs you*

I don't think ANYONE is questioning your translation, love, and I'm sorry if you feel a bit caught in the middle of all this after your generosity in translating the article. Well, I've posted my thoughts on it at my journal, but I'm glad I'm not the only one seeing the need for cooler heads to prevail.

Now let's all get back to squee!

Trust me, I had to do enough Gaelic-to-English translation lately that I'm not going to complain about anyone's translation, I know how tricky it can be to try and find just the right word!

Ach, können da mal wieder welche nicht damit umgehen, dass Dom alles andere als religiös ist? Au wei. Jeder nach seiner Fasson, wie wa in Berlin imma sagen. ;-)

Sage mal, hast du nicht Lust auf das Gavin DeGraw Konzert? Ich will will will da hin, und die Tickets sind so billig, aber keiner will mit. :-(

I can't believe how crazy this got! It definitely shows that "never discuss religion and politics unless you want to lose a friend" is a very wise statement.

I hope you're not taking any of this on you, Nora. It's not your fault. You were just being sweet when you translated the article for us.

And one has to keep in mind that the interview was most likely done in English, then translated into German and then we translated it back into English. It probably lost a lot of details during all that.

Pop Pop was a very wise man. :) Both subjects are very, very touchy and people can get their feelings hurt if they think their beliefs or opinions are being questioned. As I said in my LJ, I haven't seen any "Christians are retarded yay!" comments. If there are some, point me to them.

I can understand why someone who is a devout Christian would be troubled by what Dom said (even with any translation issues, it's clear that he's not a religious person). He seems to have a cynical view based on his own life experiences.

It's times like these I wish we had a direct hotline to Dom to get him to clarify the situation! A big red emergency phone that we could use in cases like this so he could explain what he meant and set the record straight.

:hugs:

Nora I'm so grateful you went to all that work to share the article with us, and I'm so sorry if you are getting any crap for it!! I'm sure if there are problems with the accuracy/tone, they came from the interviewer and the magazine editors, not from you.

I feel so bad about this-- I really hope none of my comments have hurt anyone's feelings, but it's so hard to talk about this subject without offending someone. *cries*

Your translations are always much appreciated!

I had a look at the article in german (my german is not as good as yours, obviously) and your translation looks really good to me.

The concepts not religion thing is a good point and we all do it. I am NO a Christian and have a big problem with organized religion based on past and present world history. This does not mean ALL organized relgiionis or all participants in ANY organized religion. Just that ideas are like a scalpel in a monkey's paw.

And I'm not really sure if people are upset with each other or that people feel "threatened" because other folks hold a divergent view.

I'm reasonably certain that whereas he has a problem with religion in general, he does NOT have a problem with people who have faith -- good hearted people who do the right thing.

Your translation was completely okay. Whoever has a problem with Dom's opinion - they have to deal with that on their own.

BTW: I think he's totally right with what he says. And he's not afraid to say it.
