Golden Globes tonight *squee* I still have to check if PRo7 airs the show live!
I love the awards season..
Apparently Dom was asked to attend Ring*Con 2006, but supposedly asked for too much money. (check
cologne_chick's LJ )
The thing is, we don't even know if it was Dominic himself who said " want this amount of money", or if hisPR company agent did all the negotiation on that matter.
Saying Dom is "trying to distance himself from his LOTR character", is a little too far fetched in my opinion. A
fter all there is a life after LOTR, and if you ask Elijah he surely says that he doesn't wanna be Frodo for the rest of his life..So, if Dom takes a break from working on promoting his Merry-self than that's ok imho..
I really don't know what to say to that matter right now..
sweetzattack knows oh so well what to say..
I am posting the most important parts, cos they sum up my thoughts at the moment.. (oops..quoted nearly the whole thing after all :D
Dear so-called "fans",
Yes, I heard it too. Yeees, I read Dom is asking an unbelievable fee of $XXX.XXX to do a convention. And no, I don't think he pulled that outta his own ass! (...)
He's an actor, kiddos! Just like every other working human being he has an employer and can not do whateverthefuck he wants! More than that, actually - he has an employer (in this case ABC and the friggin' Mouse) and a management. He has agents and a future to think of! Did the thought that maybe all these people who, unlike us, have influence on him think that going back to Middle-Earth, and if it's just for a convention, might hold him up ever cross your mind? Can you imagine that, maybe, it's not him who set the prize?
What would you prefer? Him saying, "Nope, sorry, not gonna do this, you're ruining my career?" He is a public person who really has enough on his plate, he can't afford being rude so the only damn thing he can do is ask for fees he knows no one can afford. He's got a job to do, people, and while conventions are work too, let's face it, the time of his life when he was "just" Merry are over. There's more important things for him to think about now.
Sure, the fact that he doesn't exactly love conventions and was treated like fucking shit at ORC (yes, I *do* have a rather strong opinion about Creation-cons - if they can't do it right, they'd better not do it at all and I am not going to step back from that) might play into this now, but I seriously doubt it's the main reason.

I wouldn´t want to go to meetings of a thing I´ve done five years before. I am also not going to my England group meetings anymore. It´s kind of sad, but it´s over and it doesn´t feel right to stick with it ... soooooo .... I would understand if he wants to move on.
